Kaveri: - It looks very inhuman. Still in these days, you can see some hand-pulled rickshaws in several parts of Kolkata. The West Bengal government declared to ban all these hand-pulled rickshaws, but still these are there.
Bisthu: - Have you noticed those men, who pull those rickshaws with their hands? They are the people who falls under BPL (Below Poverty Line) category. If you will disallow them to pull those rickshaws, then where will they go? How will they earn their living? Anyway, there are no complaints against them. All the citizens of North Kolkata, Esplanade and Bhawanipore area are satisfied with them. Because, whenever you want to ride on those rickshaws, they never say ‘no’ to you.
Sumitra: - You are supporting those hand pulled rickshaw pullers, because they hail from UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa and you are from South-East Bihar only.
Bisthu: - kya madam, woh log apna hoon paseena ek karkey paisa kama raha hain, ush mein bhi aap logon ko takleef hoti hain, yeh bilkul thik baath nahi hain…
Kaveri: - But, one thing I must admit that these rickshaw-pullers have terrific energy. They don’t even pant for breathe even after running for 20 minutes with those rickshaws. My goodness, are they aliens?
Bisthu: - No, no, madam. Yeh sab Satyendra Sattoo ka kamaal hain…The people of Bihar, UP and Jharkhand do not eat rice and potato (Aloo-Bhaatey and Bhaath) like the Bengali people. Every morning, these rickshaw-pullers eat sattoo with mirchi ka achar and green chilli. Baash! That gives them tremendous energy. Also, they drink sattoo ka sharbath.
Sumitra: - Issh…You are talking about those Sattoo juices, which get sold at the roadside. Boss, do you know that the drinking water they use remains uncovered most of the time. Also, there is no guarantee that they are using proper drinking water to make those juices. If you drink those juices, there is a 99% chance that you may suffer from jaundice or Hepatitis-A.
Bisthu: - Kya bol rahi hain aap, madam. Aisa hoga toh humlog woh sattoo bechney walon ko hee udhar kaat ke fekh dengey…The person who sells sattoo sharbath, always makes sure that the drinking water he is using is pure and clean. He always prefers to take the drinking water from deep tube-wells and stores it in a clean container. If you find any sattoo sharbath seller, who is unclean and unhygienic, just let us know; we will not let that person to sell those sattoo sharbath.
Kaveri: - It hardly matters to us. In any case, we, the Bengalis are not fond of drinking that sattoo sharbath. That is a Bihari drink. We hate to drink that sharbath.
Arindam: - Ha ha ha…exactly, I used to think in a similar fashion in my childhood. But, when I used to play football in Northern Park of Bhawanipore, as a player of Yellow house in Julien Day School, I noticed one peculiar thing. In our times, the football players of Green house always used to defeat us in any football match and their key was their stamina. Every morning, I used to see that all the players are drinking at least 3 full glasses of Sattoo Sharbath. One day, I asked, one of my classmates cum a player of Green house, whose name is Diptaban about the secret of drinking too many glasses of sattoo sharbath. He just stared at me with big eyes and said, ‘le halua, amra chatur sarbath keno khacchi janish naa…abbey, eta jato khabi, tato energy paabi…After Glucon –D drink, Sattoo sharbath is the best energy drink.’ From that day onwards, I started drinking Shattoo ka sharbath. We lost the final match against Green House football team in 1999, that’s a different issue, but this drink is really an energy drink.
Bisthu: - You can even prepare it at home. Take a glass; put some pieces of green chili, a half spoon of salt, a half spoon of lemon juice and then pour a packet of Satyendra Sattooo. Now, pour water into the glass and then mix it with a spoon. Add some masala on the upper surface of the juice and taste it.
Sumitra: - Hmm…I will surely try to prepare the “SARBATH OF SATYENDRA SATTOO” in my house, for my children, to keep them energized all the time.
